Mitigation: The Kyrgyz Republic has signed but not ratified the Paris Agreement. In their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions, the Kyrgyz Republic commits unconditionally to greenhouse gas emissions reductions of 11.49-13.75% from the business as usual scenario by 2030 and of 12.67-15.69% by 2050. With international support those emission reduction ranges could be increased to 29-30.89% and 35.06-36.75% respectively. Mitigation activities will occur across the energy, industrial, waste, and agriculture sectors, and engage with issues of land use, land use change, and forestry. Adaptation: Given the Kyrgyz Republic's vulnerability to climate change, adaptation is a priority. The sectors that are most vulnerable to economic losses without adaptation, and therefore require adaptation and resilience building, include water, agriculture, energy, emergencies and emergency response, healthcare, and forests and biodiversity. International Climate and Environmental Commitments: The Paris Agreement (Signed), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Party), Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Party), United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (Party), Convention on Biological Diversity (Party), Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (Party), Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Party)

The Kyrgyz Rebublic's NDC-SDG Connections

The Kyrgyz Republic is a landlocked country, located within a mountain chain in north-eastern central Asia. It faces socioeconomic challenges related to development and poverty, as well as natural hazards such as earthquakes. The Kyrgyz Republic is considered particularly vulnerable to climate change because its predominate economic sector (agriculture) and the location of much of its population (in foothills around mountains) are highly climate and weather sensitive, and vulnerable to climate change.
