GERICS

The Climate Service Center was an initiative developed by the German Federal Government, initiated in 2009, based at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG). Starting in June 2014, the Center was institutionalized in the Helmholtz Association. Since July 20th 2015 the center is renamed in Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) and is located in the “Chilehaus”, Hamburg.

Overall objectives

  • To determine the actual requirements of decision makers in government, administration and business in Germany with regard to information on long-term climate change and its direct and indirect impacts
  • To cover this demand by application-oriented integrated knowledge and advisory services
  • To supply information supporting decisions concerning climate change adaptations

Mission

Climate Service Center Germany offers products, advisory services and decision-relevant knowledge based on sound scientific knowledge in order to support government, administration and business in their efforts to adapt to climate change. Target groups (customers/users) Climate Service Center Germany supports decision makers in enhancing their knowledge in the fields of climate change, its impact and adaptation options, addressing primarily two target groups:
  • Public and private organizations
  • External funded organisations and scientists if the supported projects are targeting Climate Service Center Germany’s objectives directly

Currently, the consultancy is focused mainly on the following sectors: water, energy and ecosystems and cities.
