Evidence Gathering on Overcoming Barriers to EbA Uptake: Survey

[On behalf of the Global Adaptation Network (GAN) Secretariat]

Dear adaptation colleagues, practitioners, and experts,

We must act now to respond to the increasingly severe effects of climate change. This includes building communities’ resilience to absorb climate impacts and scale-up adaptation efforts, such as ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation (EbA).

EbA harnesses the power of nature to increase the resilience of communities to the escalating impacts of climate change and can deliver multiple benefits for people and the planet.

To raise awareness of and scale-up EbA activities, the new Global EbA Fund, co-implemented by IUCN and UNEP, is a fast-response small grants mechanism that promotes innovative and catalytic EbA approaches and partnerships. The Global Adaptation Network (GAN) will assist the fund in gathering knowledge, evidence, and stories about EbA initiatives, along with lessons learned for upscaling EbA practices. This process will consist of both a global online survey and global and regional stakeholder dialogues taking place between June and September 2021.

We would like to invite you to contribute to this process by participating in the global survey to help gather valuable information on your country’s or region’s EbA activities and projects, with a focus on innovative approaches to overcoming key barriers to scaling up EbA:

(approx. 40 minutes to complete)

The survey is also available inFrench andSpanish.

Please note that you can only answer the survey once per email address. Other relevant case study examples can either be entered using a different email address or by contacting us directly.

You can also take part in an interactive stakeholder dialogue convened by GAN’s regional adaptation networks in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and Asia and the Pacific. For more information, please visit the GANevent page

The survey and the dialogues are a great opportunity to showcase your work and experience globally, in our knowledge products, in future discussions on EbA barriers and innovative solutions, and in future environmental and scientific literature. It is also a great opportunity for you to help us advise the Global EbA Fund and potentially shape future calls for proposals. Do not miss it!

Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information:

Thank you in advance for your participation, and we look forward to receiving your submissions by October 31.

Sincerely,

The GAN Secretariat
