Trait D-Union

The purpose of the Trait D’Union association is to initiate and develop projects in education, reading, information and culture in synergy with the actions of the government of Madagascar. To this end, Trait D’Union contacts French publishing houses and asks them to donate unsold new books, instead of destroying them, and then distributes them to Madagascar through a network of carriers engaged in the association. In the first fifthteen years, 380,000 books were donated by 30 prestigious french publishers.In 2014 Trait D’Union has 75 000 accessions, 250,000 visits, provided 23,000 loans and facilitated 1800 passed exams.

Books are delivered to the French Alliance of Antananarivo for distribution to bush 21 libraries called CLIC (Reading Centers, Information and Culture) and 29 French Alliances that account Madagascar. Trait D’Union also offers books needed for traveling libraries for elementary schools in isolated bush communities and slums.

Trait D’Union is looking to develop new activities in the following areas: computers and internet (gradually connecting all CLICs to the Internet and providing lessons on its use), French lessons, passage of the DELF-DALF exams recognized by the Malagasy Ministry of Education, training basic technical professions, and creating sports and drama clubs, amongst others.

Concerning the environment, Trait D’Union is looking to launch projects on the issues of protection and development of the environment, the organisation of facilitators training, and education for children, adolescents and adults on safeguarding the environment. Similar initiatives are envisaged for health and information and training on access to the media.
