Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute

SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, is an expert agency under the Ministry of the Environment and Energy. Through expertise in meteorology, hydrology, oceanography and climatology, SMHI contributes towards greater public welfare, increased safety and a sustainable society.

The main activities in the context of public requirements for the institute are forecasting, early warnings, monitoring, research and international co-operation. Operations include data acquisition networks, supercomputing facilities, laboratories, ships and representation in international organisations and programmes.

SMHI performs commercial services to provide planning and decision guidance for weather and water dependent activities.
