SSC

The Statistical Services Centre (SSC) provides consultancy and training in statistics and data management to a broad client base in the UK, Europe and in developing countries. Our aim is to make statistics accessible and effective as a tool to solve practical problems, in particular historical climate analysis and survey design and analysis.

The Statistical Services Centre is a not-for-profit consultancy and training centre which provides training and consultancy in statistics and data management. We take pride in delivering high quality services and paying attention to our clients’ needs both in terms of level of expertise used to solve the problem and clarity of explanation provided. As well as having our own staff, we work closely with our academic colleagues in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, in which the SSC sits, and can draw on their specialist knowledge if a situation requires it. In particular, we have excellent links to state-of-the-art weather and climate research outputs from the University of Reading’s Department of Meteorology, NCAS Climate and the Walker Institute for Climate research.

The SSC has a proven track record of international work and is involved in and committed to the better use of statistics for decision making, allieviating poverty, improving food security and assessing climate change. We are also interested in the integration of research methodologies in order to take advantage of the synergy that comes from the combination of ‘qualitative’ and ‘quantitative’ approaches.
