Research and studies related to water and climate, which are vital for the proper management of the country's vast water resources potential is still in its infancy in Nepal. While, hydrologists and meteorologists play role of utmost importance in this context, a professional organization was always felt necessary to gear their expertise, idea and effort towards the mainstream of development. In view of this, the idea of a professional organization of hydrologists and meteorologists was first officially floated during the World Meteorological Day celebration program on March 23, 2001 (2058 BS, Chaitra 10). SOHAM-Nepal was then registered at the District Administration Office, Government of Nepal, Kathmandu on January 16, 2002 (2059 BS, Magha 3).
