The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests was established in April 1985 with the aim of sustainabley managing natural resources for the equitable social and economic well being of the Bhutanese people and the nation.
Since by far most of the people living under the poverty are rural, MoAF has a special responsibility and role in poverty alleviation. With this in mind, sector objectives include:
- Enhancing sustainable rural livelihood
- To conserve and promote sustainable utilization of forest and water resources
- To promote sustainable utilization of arable agriculture and pasture land resources
- To enhance food security
