The Global Development Institute continues the commitment to addressing global poverty and inequality, by uniting the strengths of the Institute for Development Policy and Management and the Brooks World Poverty Institute. The Global Development Institute addresses global inequalities in order to promote a socially-just world in which all people, including future generations, are able to enjoy a decent life.
We’re the largest dedicated development research and teaching institute in Europe, led jointly by Professors Uma Kothari and David Hulme. Development studies at The University of Manchester are ranked third in the QS World University Rankings. The results of the most recent Research Excellence Framework ranked GDI first for impact ranking in Development Studies in the UK, with many of our researchers deemed to be 'world leading'.
