Dorcas Aid International

Dorcas is a Christian relief and development organisation inspired by Matthew 25:31-46, to care for and empower the poor and the oppressed. Dorcas has been involved in relief and development programmes for more than 35 years and currently operates in 17 focus countries in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In cooperation with local churches and partner organisations, Dorcas contributes to the empowerment and inclusion of its target groups irrespective of race, religion, gender and political affiliation.

Programmes

Dorcas works with local churches and partner organisations in 17 countries in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East and is active in more than 150 projects in:

Development – helping people improve their lives sustainably by implementing long-term projects in the field of Sustainable Livelihoods, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health and Child Development.

Disaster response – helping people who have been affected by natural disasters as well as victims of political or military conflicts. Dorcas offers Relief, Rehabilitation as well as Risk Reduction and Preparedness interventions.

Social care – providing care for marginalised people; the elderly, chronically ill, prisoners and people with disabilities.

Theory of change

The Dorcas theory of change describes and clarifies how Dorcas envisions the pathway of change from a situation of poverty and exclusion to a situation of transformed individuals and communities. This transformation requires simultaneous action at the three levels of individual, community and society. Read more about our theory of change.
