The CREALP - Center for Research on the Alpine Environment - is a non-proit foundation based in Sion. It was founded in 1968 by the Canton of Valais and the City of Sion with the aim of enhancing applied research in geosciences in Valais, and more broadly in the Alpine region.
The CREALP conducts applied research projects in the field of geoscience oriented mainly to issues of environmental monitoring and natural hazards, as well as in the development of natural resources. For more than twenty years, CREALP has been closely involved with the Canton of Valais to provide scientific and technical support as well as its expertise in these different fields of activity. It provides a bridge between the academic world, practice, cantonal and federal institutional structures and other non-profit organizations. The center also organizes training for practitioners and students.
