Association for Research on Climate and Environment, Algeria

Created in Oran (Algeria) in 1993, the Association for Research on Climate and Environment (ARCE) materialized the will of a group of scientists from different backgrounds to advocate an integrated pluri-disciplinary approach of the environmental research.

As part of the Circe project, the Association for Research on Climate and Environment coordinated a case study on the impacts of climate change, and possible adaptation measures, in the Gulf of Oran, Algeria.

Case Study: Gulf of Oran

The Gulfs of Oran and Arzew, in Algeria, comprise rich marine ecosystems, a fertile coastal zone, nature reserves for a wide range of species, and ancient sites of historical and cultural significance. The marine ecosystem is, however, sensitive to environmental disturbance, for example, pollution, climate change, deterioration of marine habitat and over-exploitation of resources.
