Ratna tinggal di Mataram, aktif di NGO sejak 1987. Awalnya di pendampingan masyarakat pesisir, lanjut pendidikan alternatif bagi anamk dan masyarakat dan untuk memeberi ruang bermain bagi anak dan lingkungan yang layak huni, dilanjutkan menekuni permukiman yang bertumpu pada kelompok.
