Fondo Acción is a nonprofit organization that works in Colombian rural areas to collaborate with local communities in order to imagine and implement solutions that they believe could improve their livelihoods. We believe that the best solutions come from the knowledge and creativity of locals, and we support them through financial, technical, communicative, and legal assistance. Since 2000, we have worked with at least 20,000 families in 9 rural regions on the Pacific coast, in the Amazon, and in the Caribbean. We have implemented several projects and programs in environmental areas (Climate Change, Rural Development, Payment for Environmental Services), with the funding of donors including the national government, USAID, The German Federal Environment Ministry, and others.
Throughout this process, we have learned how development and cooperation in a country like Colombia are full of achievements, opportunities to improve, and dreams. Taking advantage of the lessons we have learned in these years, we have created a new department in our organization, named Knowledge Management. This area works daily with different stakeholders (donors, staff, national and local government, communities) to gather lessons learned from the implementation of Fondo Acción's programs and projects and use them in other projects, to write executive documents with recommendations to facilitate the relationship and collaboration among stakeholders, as well as to document project experiences.
