Nature-based flood risk mitigation and ecosystem assessment

Dr. Bregje van Wesenbeeck is an expert on ecosystem assessment with a focus on coastal and wetland ecosystems. She has extensive field experience in intertidal systems and is skilled in experimental design and statistical testing. She values multidisciplinary research, and therefore often participates in multidisciplinary projects that include ecology, hydrodynamics, water quality and morphology. The last 5 years she has been working in international projects where ecosystem services are used to obtain goals in water management, coordinates Deltares marketing and research activities for ‘Building with Nature’ or ‘eco-engineering’ and implements these innovative approaches for the Dutch government.
