Lyambai Workshop objectives

Objectives

1. Creating a stage on which representatives from vulnerable rural communities in case study village clusters can present their experiential evidence of climate present and past and its impacts on their lives and livelihoods to a participative audience representing boundary and stakeholder groups in awareness raising and capacity building for adaptation project and process.

2. Presenting climate and meteorological dynamics affecting local area and region in understandable and functionally usable manner.

3. Investigating and prioritising indigenous knowledge networks – use of participative action research and social learning techniques Listening to real life stories of existence, livelihoods, weather, climate and environmental change in local language

4. Eliciting, believing and valuing local knowledge and experiential evidence and responding to it through meteorological, resource body, traditional authority, local government, belief system, media and other stakeholder lens.

5. Raising awareness of climate change and variability and associated risks and impacts to a wider regional community.

6. Integrating evidence from 1 and 2 into adaptation strategies that add to what was already there (3)

7. Developing set of adaptation ideas and priorities for village groups to take back to communities for discussion and response

8. Devising follow-up strategy and reporting structure for local organisation to employ from end of workshop to implementation stage.
