Climate Adaptation Training

Training is a key activity to build capacity and empower stakeholders to use climate information in their decision making and help them respond confidently and effectively to climate change. The Climate Adaptation Training theme provides an organised collection of material and links to different training courses and workshops. It includes material based on longer climate adaptation courses that run as (e.g. annual) meeting series or online e-learning courses, but it also includes introductory level courses, discussion of concepts, examples, tool summaries etc among the different types of learning products available. See: the 'What is included?' table below for more information.

The material covers a range of topics in the areas of climate information analysis, vulnerability assessment and adaptation planning. The theme is divided into five topical categories (based on the PROVIA assessment framework and adapted for our purposes of covering the whole range of activities for which training is needed) :

  • Understanding actors’ vulnerabilities and adaptation needs
  • Identifying and appraising adaptation options
  • Planning and implementing adaptation actions
  • Monitoring and evaluating adaptation and drawing lessons
  • Concepts and terminology for adaptation training

All of the training material published under this theme is open access and available for anyone to use. You may also use the buttons below to share your own content with the climate adaptation community and to discuss any training topics of interest.

You can also find further material in each of these weADAPT themes: Using Climate Information - Vulnerability - Adaptation Planning.

prueba fotocv copy - climate adaptation.

It is a pleasure to be part of this group! and I'd like to contribute with our new Cities and Climate Change modules, recently launched at UN-Habitat.

http://unhabitat.org/urban-initiatives/initiatives-programmes/cities-and...

Please contact me if you need further details. Best regards, Lilia

tahia crop - climate adaptation.

Lilia, thank you for letting us know about the Cities and Climate Change Academy! Would you be interested in creating a page introducing the Academy under this theme 'Climate Adaptation Training', maybe building on your Module 2: The Practice of Urban Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation? This page could then link to the Academy page for more modules. The content you shared is also very relevant for a project that has recently started called FRACTAL focused on building urban resilience in Windhoek, Maputo, Lusaka, Cape Town, Durban, Blantyre, Gaborone and Harare. Looking forward to your inputs!

Hi Lilia,

Thanks so much for sharing this. As Tahia mentioned, it will be a very useful resource for our new FRACTAL project working with local governments in 8 African cities to improve the flow of climate-related information across the science-policy-planning interfaces.

Also, it links to some curriculum development work we are doing for the Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA) on climate change and development (see news item), which includes a module on cities and climate change, so there may be opportunities to use / build on / modify some of the materials you have developed.

Kind regards,

Anna

Look forward to exchange with the theme members on needs and relevance of available content..

Thank you

I would like to explore opportunities for working on building rural and  urban resilience from climate extremes

I am happy to join this forum and be a part of this initiative. I am working and some issues and will be interested in future to contribute in some way and learn from the issues discussed here.
