Carbon Proofing of village Development Plans towards resilient mountain communities
Natural water sources / springs, climate change, loss of forest cover and forest fragmentation, loss of biodiversity, unsustainable agriculture including crop diversification, solid waste management, water, and water pollution and energy consumption are the key issues of concerns in the rural areas of Himachal Pradesh & Eco-village schemes aims to address these by implementing the environmentally sustainable practices across different sectors at village level.
Department of Environment, Science & Technology, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, is actively engaged in the state with an objective to improve the effectiveness of environmental management, protect vulnerable ecosystems and enhance sustainability of development.
The department has been working in the state to bring out futuristic policies which offers inclusive development. It is also the custodian of any matters pertaining of climate change in the state and has been working closely with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), GoI.
A Himachal Pradesh Knowledge Cell on Climate Change (HPKCCC) has been setup in the DEST under National Mission for Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystems (NMSHE) funder by the Department of Science & Technology, GoI to place a sound coordination mechanism for ensuring cooperative and cohesive actions relating to climate change.
