Sida helpdesk template page
This is a template page to prepare for requests for information and analysis from the Sida helpdesks so that we can respond in a timely manner when they arrive. Please follow this template when putting together information and contacts for a country to prepare for a request. Once a request come in information specific to that request can then be addded.

Status
- Indonesia: Climate Change analysis submitted to the Environmental Economics Helpdesk (Emelie and Gunilla), and they have now submitted the Environment and Climate policy brief to Sida. This has now been accepted by Sida.
- Timor Leste (East Timor): A Background analysis on climate change was requested for Timor Leste, with a focus on capacity to adapta to climate change. A draft has been submitted to the Environmental Economics Helpdesk (Emelie and Gunilla) and this will be integrated into the larger Environment and Climate Policy Brief. Lisa Schipper is conducting a questionnaire on the East Timor's climate related capacity, and when the results of this are available they will be added to the brief.
- China: A similar request to Indonesia for background climate change analysis. The Climate Change analysis has been submitted to the Environmental Economics Helpdesk (Anders Ekborm) and the Environment and Climate Policy Brief is currently with the Sida China office for comments and revisions.
- Bolivia: Input is required to a Sida meeting in La Paz in November on the environment and climate. A TOR has been developed with Daniel Slunge at the Environmental Economics Helpdesk and a 10-15 page document will be submitted in draft form on the 15th October and final version 31st October. The paper will look at the impacts of climate change and opportunities/priorities for adaptation and mitigation in different sectors and regions in Bolivia, as well as the capacity and policies to deal with climate change. This paper is now being revised based on comments from its use in the November workshop.
- Mali and Burkina Faso: Emilie Goransson of the SIDA regional office for W. Africa, and Emelie Dahlberg of the Environmental Economics helpdesk have requested assistance in identifying projects that SIDA could fund in Mali and Burkina Faso. Tentatively we will produce a document with a brief background on climate and environment issues in the countries, followed by a look at the priority projects identified in the NAPA and other possible projects to fund. We will work with local experts, possibly Youba Sokona of OSS, and Yacouba Dème of the near East Foundation, to identify suitable activities for SIDA to fund.
- Georgia: Input requested for an Environment and Climate Policy Brief with a deadline for a first draft of the 31st Jan. Fairly simple country analysis as Georgia is not a Sida priority country.
- Turkey: Input requested for an Environment and Climate Policy Brief with a focus on Turkey's accession to the EU. Deadline 9th Feb 2009.
- Africa Regional Strategy: EME had a meeting with SIDA on the 6th February about developing their Regional Assistance Strategy for Africa. for which we provided 2 pages for on the key issues, challenges and institutions to work with, drawing mainly on work for the AMCEN conference in May 2008. Input for the climate chapter of the full strategy was requested with a deadline of mid-March. The analysis has been submitted and the policy brief is currently circulating for comments.
- Latin America Regional Strategy: SIDA are developing heir regional co-operation strategy for Latin America, and require a policy brief on the Environment and Climate Change. Deadline is the 13th March. Due to the difficulty of covering the issues for such a large region in just 4 pages we decided to focus on 1 key issue for each sub-region; Glacier retreat and water availability in the Andes, Die-back and deforestation in the Amazon, Water availability in Central America and sea-level rise in the Caribbean. A separate study by another helpdesk undertook the institutional mapping in the region, so there was less focus on institutions in our submission.
- Macedonia: This is a similar study as for Turkey, covering basic climate change issues in the country but with a focus on what this means for Macedonia's accession to the EU.
- Cambodia: There will be a request for work on a brief for Cambodia, probably in April, but it's not sure. Gunilla is the contact and SEI Bangkok will probably take a lead on this.
